Lynne Bassis’ greatest gift is her work as a peacemaker. A past Director of the Disability Mediation Center at Loyola Law School and an accomplished mediator, mediation trainer, speaker and writer, Ms. Bassis guides counsel and parties through the intersection of law and human emotion. Ms. Bassis displays these strengths in her handling of employment, disability, elder, intra-family, malpractice, business partnership, commercial and real estate matters. Ms. Bassis is a mediator for the American Arbitration Association (AAA), Alternative Resolution Centers (ARC), Inland Valley Arbitration Mediation Services (IVAMS) and the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). She mediates for the United States Postal Service, US Department of Navy, Office of Affirmative Action Compliance, County of Los Angeles, National Conflict Resolution Center’s Elder Care Mediation Panel (San Diego), Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration and formerly for the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Background
Ms. Bassis' demeanor, listening skills and knowledge of the law all work concurrently to help her uncover the emotional component that may be blocking settlement of the case. When all of the legal, personal and business issues are on the table, and resolution is on the line, using her hallmark traits of patience, perseverance and passion, Ms. Bassis’ ability to choreograph a process that leads to a resolution for all parties is nothing short of masterful. Before becoming a full time neutral, Ms. Bassis’ private sector work included association with municipal defense and employment-labor law firms. Her public sector work included service as a Prosecutor for the California State Bar and Court Counsel for the California Supreme Court’s State Bar Court Judiciary. Ms. Bassis sits on the Executive Committee of the California State Bar Labor & Employment Committee, presenting topical programs to the Labor & Employment Law Section. She is a former Director of the Southern California Mediation Association and former Vice-Chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Attorney Client Mediation and Arbitration Services Executive Committee.

Education/Training
Ms. Bassis, a lawyer for 23 years, is an accomplished mediator (16 years) and mediation trainer (13 years). She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of U.C. Berkeley, California, and she received her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts.


As an ADR pioneer in California, Ms. Bassis brings her worldview of mediation to the mediation table and to the classroom. As faculty for the Los Angeles County Bar Association and other institutions, Ms. Bassis has provided mediation training to thousands of lawyers and other professionals during the last 13 years. Most recently, Ms. Bassis is engaged in providing Interest-Based Bargaining training to Air Force personnel.
