Joe Epstein is a Fellow and Board Member of the International Academy of Mediators. He brings creativity, high energy, keen insight and impressive listening skills to his full time mediation practice. Background
Joe was a litigator for twenty-five years. He started as an Assistant United States Attorney. Then in private practice he handled primarily professional liability cases, products liability cases and personal injury cases. For example, Joe worked with victims of birth injuries, psychotherapy malpractice, carbon monoxide poisoning and propane gas explosions. One of Joe's cases was made into a PBS documentary special, "My Doctor, My Lover". On the other hand, at one time or another Joe represented the Colorado Psychiatric Society, the Colorado Dental Association and several community mental heath centers. Interestingly, Joe served as counsel for the Colorado Association of Retarded Citizens. Relatedly, Joe led an effort to build seven group homes for the devepmentally disabled and served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for zoning issues involving housing for the developmentally disabled. Joe has served as President of the Colorado Association of Trial Lawyers, a Governor of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and a Board Member of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. Joe is an accomplished writer and public speaker and has written on trial strategy, evidence, medical malpractice and mediation. His most recent articles include "SunTzu's Tips on Effective Mediation", "Proactive ADR" and "Effective Mediation of Employment Cases".
Education/Training
Joe Epstein received his law degree from New York University School of Law in 1969, where he served as a student editor of NYU's Annual Survey of American Law. He received his mediation training at CDR Associates, Harvard University's School of Public Health, Pepperdine University's School of Law and Chapman University.
