Cynthia has practiced as a mediator and arbitrator for over 19 years (full-time since 2008; part-time from 1990-2000.) She has mediated over 1,000 cases with a consistent success rate well above 90% and has arbitrated scores of cases as a AAA panelist.

Cynthia’s ability to analyze and resolve complex issues as a mediator and arbitrator springs from her 35+ years’ legal experience, including as 1) an in-house employment attorney/manager with Intel Corporation in Asia and California (2000-2007); 2) a managing employment partner/trial lawyer with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe (1981-2000); 3) a law clerk for respected jurists of the Supreme Court of California (1979; the late Justice Mathew O. Tobriner) and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (1980-81; the late Judge Thomas Tang); and 4) a 1980 law graduate and managing law review editor while at Boalt Hall (now called Berkeley Law).

Cynthia prides herself on her global sensitivity and cultural competence, which stems from her many years of international experience, including living and teaching for two years in Mexico and living and working in Hong Kong as an in-house counsel for four years with responsibility for 22 Asian countries. While in Asia, Cynthia 1) managed a cross-border, multi-national staff and multi-national issues; 2) managed litigation, outside counsel, legal issues and ADR in numerous countries; 3) taught classes in many different countries and settings; and 4) negotiated with foreign government officials in Asia and the Middle East.
