Dr. Joan Parker has handled thousands of labor-management, employment, and commercial arbitration and mediation cases. She is experienced in a broad array of issues, including contract interpretation, wrongful termination, discipline, employment discrimination, pensions and benefits, executive compensation, civil rights in the workplace, and general workplace and commercial disputes. She is a noted speaker and author of two books and numerous articles on employment and labor relations topics. Dr. Parker currently serves as a permanent arbitrators under several national collective bargaining agreements. Previously, she was a tenured professor and Director of the Graduate Program in Industrial Relations and Human Resources at Rutgers University.Parker currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association, Co-Chair of the AAA's National Labor-Management Task Force, and Chair of the AAA's Employment Arbitration Advisory Council. Dr. Parker is a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators and the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals. She is also a member of the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials Doping Grievances Panel and the employment mediation & arbitration panel of Kraft Foods, Inc. She is an Adjunct Professor of labor law, arbitration, and dispute resolution at Rutgers University.
Active nationwide practice including mediation, arbitration, fact-finding, and other forms of ADR in the private and public sectors. Currently serves as permanent arbitrator under national agreements in network television, steel, airline, manufacturing, food, aerospace, pharmaceutical, railroad, professional sports, entertainment, and various government agencies. In addition to her mediation and arbitration practice, Parker is founder and principal of JoanParkerADR, a firm specializing in fact-finding, settlement counseling, and other forms of neutral investigation work, all geared toward litigation avoidance and the prompt and economical resolution of workplace, commercial, and other disputes.Parker also serves on the three-member Federal Reserve System Employment Relations Board, which adjudicates unfair practice and representation disputes involving the Federal Reserve Banks.
