Mission Statement
The
purpose of the International Academy of Mediators is to define standards
and qualifications for the professional mediator of commercial disputes
and to promote the mediation process as the preferred means of resolving
disputes.

Empowerment
and recognition of Mediators as professionals by public and ADR
peers; individual professionals, working in a cooperative rather
than a competitive manner to advance both the profession and the
process of mediation. Ongoing, continuing communications between
IAM, its members, and the public.
Membership
recognized as a professional distinction in the dispute resolution
field; membership is available only to proven mediators.
Promulgation
of ethical and professional standards by IAM, including ethics online
maintained by the Ethics Committee.
Two
conferences per year with discounted fees for members. The Fall
Educational Conference is for Members only, while the February Annual
Conference will provide significant outreach and linkage to users
and providers of ADR services to encourage their attendance.
Continuing
educational opportunities and conferences for members only.
Legal
defense fund contribution for members who adhere to IAM ethical
and professional standards, and are nevertheless involved in legal
proceedings resulting from their work as mediator.
Publishing
opportunities for mediation professionals.
Active
public relations by professionals; external outreach; press releases;
publication of membership directory.
Access
to state-of-the-art research and system design strategies, including
member experience.
