Larry Bridgesmith to Receive Public Service in Mediation Award

The Coalition for Mediation Awareness will present IAM Honorary Fellow Larry Bridgesmith with the sixth annual Grayfred Gray Public Service in Mediation Award on February 21, 2013.

"On Mediation Day, February 21, 2013, proclaimed by Gov. Haslam, Larry Bridgesmith will be honored in Nashville for his lasting contributions to the field of mediation in Tennessee. As the first Executive Director of Lipscomb University's Institute for Conflict Management, Bridgesmith implemented mediation training programs for police officers, judges, bi-lingual mediators, workers compensation benefits specialists and Metro Nashville students."

Deborah Rothman publishes, "Elimination of ADR Programs won't create catastrophic backlogs" in the San Francisco Daily Journal

IAM Distinguished Fellow, Deborah Rothman has published the editorial, "Elimination of ADR Programs won't create catastrophic backlogs" in last Thursday's San Francisco Daily Journal.

"The Los Angeles County court system has struggled to maintain essential operations through several rounds of drastic budget cuts and will, in June 2013, shave millions more from its budget by closing all counrtrooms in 10 regional courthouses and eliminating most court-connected ADR programs..."

IAM President Elect Karin Hobbs has written an article on the recent shooting at a mediation in Phoenix, Arizona. How does this affect the mediation process?

"Mediation is a process of conflict resolution. Force is not a technique embraced by mediators. Listening, understanding perspectives, probing priorities, providing guidance, and discussing the likely outcome in court are some of the techniques mediators use to resolve disputes."

Psychology Today reviews Eric Galton and Lela Love's book "Stories Mediators Tell". Author Jeff Thompson states that:

Lela Love Receives the IAM Lifetime Achievement Award

May, 2012 Washington, DC- The International Academy of Mediators (IAM) has honoured Professor Lela Porter Love with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for her exceptional contributions to advancing alternative dispute resolution personally throughout her career and inspiring others to do the same.

Incoming IAM President and Distinguished Fellow, Eric Galton, presented the award at the IAM Banquet at the Canadian Embassy where close to 100 of the top mediators in the world met.

Distinguished Fellow, David Hoffman

Distinquished Fellow, David Hoffman is the recipient of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediations John Adams Fiske Award for Excellence in Mediation.

David will be teaching the mediation course at Harvard Law School, for the sixth consecutive year, where he is the John H. Watson Jr. Lecturer on Law. In addition, the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education will be publishing a mediation manual that Hoffman wrote in collaboration with his colleagues at the Boston Law Collaborative and affiliates.
