Vance Cooper is the principal of Cooper Mediation Inc. He practiced law for over 25 years primarily in the areas of personal injury and insurance litigation. In that context, he acted as counsel for plaintiffs, defendants, insurers, insureds and self insured parties and participated in well over 1,000 mediations as counsel. He worked with and learned from over 20 experienced mediators in the field and is indebted to them for their tutelage and camaraderie.
Since 2005, Vance has worked primarily as a mediator and as an arbitrator. Vance has mediated over 1,000 matters primarily in the areas of personal injury and insurance (first party disputes, life and disability, cargo and fire). Vance has served as a private arbitrator under Ontario's Insurance Act in the context of deciding disputes between insurers (priority disputes and loss transfer disputes).
In addition to being a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators (IAM), Vance is a Chartered Mediator of the ADR Institute of Canada and certified by the International Mediation Institute (IMI).

Background
Vance is affable yet persistent; subtly evaluative; tenacious. Some describe Vances pursuit of settlement at mediation as akin to a dog with a bone. At the same time, he is able to respect legitimate differences of opinion and, after digging deeper into those differences and the reasons behind them, respect the views and differences of the parties and their counsel. Vance is thoroughly prepared and well versed and knowledgeable in his areas of practice.
Vance is a careful and keen listener and a strong communicator. He learned from his late grandfather who passed on many pieces of sage advice, two being particularly apt to mediation: "You can never listen yourself into trouble" and "You have two ears and one mouth; you should use them in those proportions".
Above all else, Vance is a problem solver. Vance has been known to say, "Problems are but a prelude to solutions".
