Joyce is President of Joyce A. Mitchell & Associates. She has practiced law for more than 30 years and ADR for 15 years . She mediates and arbitrates complex employment, business and securities cases nationwide, the District of Columbia and Maryland. She is a certified mediator in the states of Virginia and North Carolina. She is on the mediator rosters of the various courts of suburban DC/MD, the EEOC, and several other Federal agencies. She arbitrates for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the American Arbitration Association. She has been a co-trainer of the Maryland State Bar Association’s 40 hr. basic mediation training for the past 3 years.
Joyce has over 200 hours of mediation training in facilitative, transformative and mindfulness methodologies. In April 2015, she completed 20 hours of advanced mediation at the professional skills program of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine School of Law and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law Center for Dispute Resolution. She has mediated and arbitrated more than 1400 cases. Joyce is a former adjunct professor at the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University where she taught ADR Techniques (Mediation, Arbitration, and Negotiation), Interviewing and Counseling. She is currently an adjunct at the Francis King Carey School of Law at the University of Maryland where she teaches arbitration. Joyce is a past chair of the Maryland State Bar Association ADR Section and a past co-chair of the ADR section of the Bar Association of Montgomery County MD. Her legal practice is limited to business, construction, religion, employment and labor law.
Joyce is licensed to practice in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and has bar memberships before the United States District Court for Maryland, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Maryland Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States .;
