Topic: Gathering Courage from Experience
Tracy Allen, IAM Distinguished Fellow

We are better mediators when we are willing to step outside the structure of our basic trainings and find ways to fit the forum to the fuss.

For example: Why does a general session have to be at the beginning of a mediation? Why can’t we set up a principals’ meeting without lawyers - how does that come about and how does that work? How far can we go in sharing our (un)educated opinion on the likelihood of success of a theory or argument? Are there ways to “hint” that stay within ethical guidelines? And, how do you recover when you blow it?
